After selling 714.617 tickets and a turnover of $76.9 million in 2008, Andre Rieu reached eighth position in Pollstar's Top 10 of Worldwide Touring Acts, leaving acts like Coldplay far behind him.
Never reached a Dutch artist such a position in this chart before. Selling an average of 10.000 tickets per concert, the violinist from Maastricht is without doubt the bestselling Dutch classical artist ever. The top three on the list was headed by Madonna, followed by Céline Dion and Bon Jovi.
Last month Rieu almost became number 1 in the Pollstar list with his shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, but because of her shows in South America and Mexico, Madonna stayed ahead of Rieu. With 300.000 tickets already sold for his concerts around the globe this year, including Japan, U.S.A. and Europe, it’s likely he will consolidate his top position in the annual list for 2009.
