In 2007 Caro Emerald got a call from two producers to sing a demo of their song “Back It Up”, they'd just written with Canadian songwriter Vince Degiorgio (N Sync, Love Inc, Aloha From Hell, Alcazar, Atomic Kitten a.o.). Caro’s version sounded so good that they decided to post the song on Youtube with a no budget video, just for fun. It caught on right away, resulting in raving reviews, people begging her to sell the song on iTunes, radiostations placing the song on their playlists and even a synch request for a big US movie production.
But with only one song under her belt, Caro and her team thought it would be better to focus on the album first. Together with Vince Degiorgio they worked on 10 new songs, inspired by films and music from the '40s and '50s.
The result is an exciting and hugely accessible debut album. It features ballroom jazz, cinematic tangoes, groovin’ jazz tracks and infectious mambo’s, that sound like they were recorded in 1951 in Hollywood’s most famous recording studios. But the smoking beats, catchy songs and inventive production tell it’s actually 2009 that Caro Emerald is going to put her name on the map.
The 1st single from the album, “Back It Up” will be released on July 6 2009 (iTunes, major download services and retail). A limited edition 7” vinyl will be issued in August.
