2000 and One - Heritage

2000 And One releases Heritage with brand new mixes

As George Orwell famously stated: "Who controls the past, controls the future". That much is true for 2000 And One (aka. Dylan Hermelijn), who has been on the forefront of electronic music since the late eighties - this year marking the twentieth anniversary of his musical career. On his latest album Heritage, Dylan has combined rich musical background with futuristic foresight, creating a record bound to set dance floors aflame. But Heritage isn't just a bunch of killer tracks. It's a homage to his first and foremost love, house music; and above all, a tribute to his West-African roots. As of now, brand new mixes of a selection of Heritage tracks hit the market, available as a limited three part 12” and digital format.

Blue eyes, light hair, a fair skin... anyone who's ever seen Dylan Hermelijn in real life wouldn't easily guess he partly stems from Africans in Surinam. But once you listen closer to his music, everything starts to make sense. Like the urban proto-house of Northeast-American cities like Chicago, Detroit and New York, Dylan's work has the African heartlands resounding through it. It's the distant bell of pulsating rhythms from prehistoric times, when dancing functioned as a tribal bonding ritual.

For the last twenty years, 2000 And One's sound has dictated this repetitive funk in its barest form - Heritage being no exception to the rule. As 2000 and One’s debut album Heritage was released earlier this year, March 2009, it was an instant classic. Being hammered by the likes of Richie Hawtin,
Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vath, Luciano and more all over the globe. Now in the autumn of 2009 the remixes of Heritage are to be released. Storming anthems as Spanish Fly, Wan Poku Moro, Burnin Dub, State of House and Honey Bush been remixed by no less than Tobi Neumann, Oner Ozur, Matthias Tanzmann, D’Julz, Butch, Anton Pieete and DJ Madskillz. All strong and all pumpin’ in a traditional 100% pure fashion.

"I'm not so much concerned with finding a deeper sense of musical understanding," Dylan Hermelijn explains. “I just want to rock the dance floor with simple and effective grooves." So to all you DJ's out there: go forth and rock that joint!

“It's quite simple: we made a car called De Staat, and EuroSonic Noorderslag was our ticket to the freeway.[...] After our showcases at EuroSonic Noorderslag 2009 we started playing clubs, and before we could hear one bird whistle, we were set for the summer. Festivals like Pinkpop, Lowlands, Dour, The Great Escape and Sziget are now gigs we can proudly brag about.” De Staat
